Meta has announced several new updates for Facebook aimed at improving user engagement, enhancing safety, and making the platform easier to use. The latest changes include a dedicated app for Marketplace sellers, a new identity verification feature, and an immersive full-screen video experience.
Dedicated Seller App for Marketplace
Facebook Marketplace continues to be one of the platform's most active services, attracting over 1.1 billion users and generating more than 430 million new listings every month.
To better support frequent sellers, Meta is launching a new standalone application called Seller. The app is designed specifically for people who regularly buy and sell items on Marketplace. It allows users to manage product listings, communicate with buyers, monitor sales activity, and track listing performance from one place.
The company believes this dedicated experience will make selling faster and more convenient for businesses and individual sellers alike.
Free Identity Verification
Meta is also introducing a new verification system named Facebook Verified for selected Facebook services. Unlike the paid Meta Verified subscription, this new feature is available at no cost.
Users can confirm their identity by submitting a selfie, allowing Facebook to verify that the account belongs to a real person. Once approved, a special verification icon will appear on profiles used in Facebook Dating, Marketplace, and Groups.
The company says this feature is intended to reduce fake accounts, improve trust between users, and create a safer community across Facebook's social services.
New Full-Screen Video Experience
Facebook is testing a redesigned video interface that automatically opens in a full-screen immersive mode when users launch the app.
The feature will first become available in international regions where video consumption is especially high before expanding to the United States next year.
Users who prefer Facebook's traditional feed layout will have the option to disable the new experience and continue using the classic interface.
Meta Continues Expanding Its App Ecosystem
The new releases are part of Meta's broader strategy of building specialized applications for different communities. Earlier this year, the company introduced Forum, a discussion-focused app for Facebook Groups, followed by Pocket, an AI-powered coding application.
This approach reflects Meta's growing focus on offering dedicated experiences instead of relying solely on the main Facebook app.
AI Features Coming to Marketplace
Meta also revealed plans to integrate artificial intelligence into Marketplace and Facebook Groups.
Upcoming AI tools are expected to help users automatically generate product descriptions for items they want to sell, while also making it easier to search through group discussions and quickly find answers to common questions.
